I’ve chosen seven groups of products that I believe to be dupes of each other and I thought I would have a little friendly competition.
Bring it on!
My two favourite concealers are the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer and the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. As you probably know, I use these together on my eyes. The Rimmel gives a brightening quality wheras the Nars is an all-rounder product. It’s great for brightening as well as covering blemishes. Therefore I’m going to give the best concealer award to the high end product.
I chose two curl and lengthening mascaras. The high end contender is Bare MInerals Flawless Definition Mascara, whereas the drugstore mascara is the No7 Dramatic Lift Mascara. The Bare Minerals One is a lot wetter but gives more length. The No7 is great for not clumping but doesn’t give a lot of length for me. It’s a good one for very natural looks. So again, I’ll give this award to the high end products.
Two of my favourite brands are L’Oreal and Bare Minerals. Both do beautiful blushes. Bare Minerals blend really well into the face, however some have quite a lot of glitter which can transfer to other areas if you apply to much! Which, let’s face it is easily done with any loose powder product. The L’Oreal Le Blush collection are pretty much the same but compact. They don’t have as much fall out and still look gorgeous. This award is going to the drugstore product.
I like non-sticky lipglosses that stay on the lips (I’m looking at you Barry M Lip Boss). Two brands that I find give this are the Nars Lipgloss range and Tanya Burr Cosmetics. I could also have had my Marvelous Moxie glosses here, but I thought I would mention something new. Both have a non sticky, highly pigmented formula. The only difference is that the Nars Lipgloss is slightly more longer lasting. Therefore, highend wins the award for best lipglosses.
Eyeshadow Base/ Cream Eyeshadow
I tend to use cream eyeshadows for my eye base rather than a primer. I find they are much better at making eyeshadows stick to the eye and stay in place longer. My two favourites are MAC Paintpots and Maybelline Colour Tattoo. You honestly can’t tell the difference looking at the products; they are identical, and have similar staying power. The only difference is that MAC is 3x more expensive for a similar product. Therefore, this award goes to the drugstore.
My two favourite eyeliners are Rimmel Exaggerate Liners and Bare Minerals Lasting Liners. Both are available in colours. Both are really long lasting and creamy formulas. This one is a tie I’m afraid.
So the final scores are 4/3 to the high end products. I guess I am a makeup snob at heart even though there are some drugstore products that I love. What are your favourite high end and drugstore products?
Bye for now!
