There are loads of starter kits posts and videos for drugstore makeup. Which does make a lot of sense. When you are younger, you don’t have a lot of money to spend on makeup.
I was quite lucky as a teenager. I got my first debit card at about 18/19 and my lovely mam took me to Clinique to get some grown up makeup. This was my wake up to the world of makeup. High end, not drugstore.
So I wanted to do this list for anybody who, like me, did have a bit of savings and wants to splash out on some decent makeup.
So foundation wise I have had quite a journey! But the best one I have found is Urban Decay’s Bare Skin Foundation. Yes this is quite new to me collection, but it is honestly my favourite foundation. It gives amazing coverage, the shades are pretty varied and it does improve your skin the more you wear it. Amazing stuff!
I use two concealers on a daily basis, one for brightening and one for blemishes. The best one for brightening is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer and for blemishes I love the Nars Radiant Creamy concealer. Both of these apply beautifully and don’t cake. Both are pricey, but this is the high end starter kit.
I don’t normally use bronzers, just contouring matte bronzing products. The best one that I have found for that is Bare Minerals Ready Bronzer in The Beach is Waiting. This is a cult product, it’s included in a lot of the summer collections and you can get it as a standalone product. It’s really good for contouring as well as bronzing up the face.
My favourite high end blush to recommend would be the Benefit Boxed Powders. Hervanna is a great starter product since it is a quite nice flash of pale pink. For darker skin tones I would recommend Rockateur.
For setting powder I would always go for something quite finely milled that doesn’t oxidise on the skin. Something like Bare Minerals Bare Skin Perfecting Veil would be ideal.
For starting out, I would recommend buying a palette. These give so many different looks that you can experiment with on a daily basis. For neutral eyeshadow lovers I would recommend the Urban Decay Naked Palettes or for for Colourful eye lovers, something like the Vice 4 or a MAC Customisable Palette.
Mascara is a no brainer for me. My favourite high end mascaras depend on the occassion. For day to day wear I would choose Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara. For more dramatic eyes I would buy Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara. Both are amazing mascaras that I repurchase a lot of.
For Brows, I would buy a kit that includes a lighter and a darker shade just incase you have a slightly darker eyebrow. Sounds weird but it happens. Eyebrows are sisters not twins. I am loving Benefit’s Brow Zings.
Oh god, the lipstick choices! I’ll stick with a nude, a red and a bright. For nude I’d choose Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready. For a red, Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipstick in Red Carpet. As for the bright side, I love an orange lip, so I would have Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Bang.
As for lipgloss I will only ever choose one collection of lipglosses and those are Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipglosses, my favourite shade being Party Starter. Another lipgloss collection that I would recommend is the Nars Lipglosses. These are also non-sticky and have a beautiful selection of colours.
And those are my High End Starter Kit choices. I hope you enjoyed this type of post, and I’ll see you next time.
Bye for now!
