Last week, I was rummaging through my Mam’s box of shame (a makeup bag full of stuff she got bored with) and came across an old foundation. I loaned my Mam this foundation after my skin began to get too used to it. Unfortunately my skin is a lot lighter than my Mam’s so it ended up in the box of shame.
I was looking through this box the other day for something else and came across my old bottle of Lancome Photogenic Lumessence Foundation. I used to use this a lot at university and stopped using it when I moved to London. When I moved back I bought this bottle for nostalgic value and I could afford it again. So I think that this makes this bottle about two to three years old.
I can sense all expiry date enthusiasts squirming in disgust.
However I have never followed expiry dates. I will keep hold of something for as long at it smells and looks fine.
When I found this everything looked fine; there was no separation in the foundation and it smelled okay. So I used it, and I have used this everyday for about a week. I haven’t had any breakouts or reactions of any kind.
This foundation gives a medium to full coverage and blends really well onto the skin. It photographs wonderfully and gives a nice dewy glow to the skin.
In my eyes, most expiry dates are a load of bollocks. If you look after your makeup by making sure they’re all clicked shut after use and stored sensibly they will be fine. The main indicator that makeup has gone off is if it smells rank. Also makeup is expensive; are you really going to get rid of a £30 after just a year, or a £40 eyeshadow palette after just two years????
The only makeup item I would say to keep an eye on expiry dates is with mascara. Air is constantly being pumped into the product and the wand picks up any bacteria from the eye and adds it too the product. I would only keep hold of a mascara for 3 to 6 months after it has been opened.
So which products have you still got hold of that is past the so-called expiry date.
Bye for now!
