I’ve heard of liquid lipsticks, but I’ve never heard of a powder lipstick. L’Oreal’s new lipstick range is definitely a little bit weird at first glance.
They are in a very narrow packaging, which gives the impression of a more lip pencil format, like the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. However, inside is a compacted lip colour and a sponge tip.
I didn’t like the idea of this when I first saw it. I thought the tip would make things quite hard to control and lipstick bleeding would occur. You just didn’t seem to have the control of a regular lipstick with the applicator I thought.
However I did purchase these on a 3 for 2 offer alongside the new contour palette because they cost the same price (£6.99).
My initial opinions have been wrong. I thought that it would feel like a powder on the lips and be quite drying. However, this applies quite creamy and is surprisingly quite hydrating on the lips.
There is some feathering with the tip, but if applied with a lip pencil you’re good to go. I tend to do this with all of my lipsticks now, so it’s not really that big of an issue for me. If you don’t normally wear lip pencils, you might not like how this applies to the edges of the lips.
These have been designed to create ombre style lip looks, which I haven’t tried, but I can imagine this formula being ideal to do this. They blend really well together and the colour range is quite gradual to create very subtle ombre or contoured lips.
They do claim to last eight hours on the lips. I’m not sure about eight hours, but they are very long lasting. They could even give my Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte lipstick a run for it’s money. Which could be good since the L’Oreal ones are a lot cheaper!
There are six shades available, and if I’m honest, they are more on the bold side. There is one nude and a pink, but the rest are quite intense. I have the shades Silencio and Say My Name; a nude and cherry red respectively. They are both really beautiful and comfortable on the lips for everyday wear.
Overall I think this is quite a surprisingly good idea and worth trying out if you are in the market for a long-lasting matte lipstick.
What do you think of this new range? Let me know in the comments.
Bye for now!
