Mid-Yearly Favourites: Face

Hi guys!

I was inspired by Manny MUA and Jaclyn Hill to write these blog posts. They uploaded their 2015 Favourites back in January and I loved listening to these very passionate makeup artists talk about the items that they love. I got thinking, “I want to do that!” But it’s only June.

However, I also think that a year is a really long time and the things that impressed us at the beginning half of the year won’t be the same as the end of the year. I mean, we are going through different seasons for a start!

So I want to do a little mini series through June regarding the things that really impressed me so far in 2016. There will be three makeup lists (face, eyes and lips), a skincare list and a random favourites. I wanted to separate them like this, because these posts/videos can get really long. I want to keep things short. On that note, let’s get on with the face favourites!

PS- Not all favourites are photographed. They ran out and I’m waiting for some others to run out before I repurchase.

There are a couple of foundations that have impressed me so far this year. Both are very glowy and medium coverage foundations. The first is the Laura Mercier Candle Glow Foundation. This is truly a beautiful foundation. It gives a lovely dewy finish without looking wet and it continues to look radiant throughout the day. My other favourite has been the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation. I have gone through two bottles of this. This is more fuller coverage than the Laura Mercier foundation however it has a more matte finish. This suits so many different skin tones, it tends to look beautiful on anyone. However, I did use this on my sister as a bridal practice and it looked a bit cakey. So it is one of those things that you will need to try for yourself.

Setting Powder

Without a doubt, my favourite setting powder is the Bare Minerals Bareskin Powder. This is very finely milled and adds a touch more colour to the skin if you need it. I have the shade tan, which does confuse some sales assistants that don’t know me, but I love this shade just to warm up my complexion on a dull skin day. It’s a beautiful powder that doesn’t dry my skin out. I still love it and have gone through three compacts.

2016 has been the introduction to bronzers in my routine, and I have been a bit of a bronzer slut lately. Yeah, I said it. Ultimately, though my favourite non-contouring bronzer has got to be the Lancome Belle de Teint in Belle de Cannelle. It just adds such a natural glow to the skin and warms up my cheek area beautifully. It’s such a lovely bronzer and comes in a fair few shades.

I have gotten into contouring a lot more lately, although I don’t go full chiselled cheek bones. I just like a hint of definition. I have two contouring products that really impressed me so far. The first one is the Nars Paloma Contour Palette. This is a giant cool toned bronzer with a matte highlight included. This is a great contour powder which suits fairer skin tones, although some medium skin tones could still get away with this; it’s darker than you think. I love this because it’s so easy to blend out that it looks natural on the skin. My other favourite contour product has been the Chanel Soleil de Tan. This is a cream bronzer, which I actually use to contour. It’s very blendable and quite sheer so it looks so natural on the skin. As the Summer hits, I have started using this to give my arms and legs a bit more colour too. It’s quite a versatile product.

I have so many blushes that I have enjoyed using so far this year! However, if I had to pick just one it would have to be the Nars Orgasm blush. My little sample size ran out recently and Nars have released a limited jumbo sized blusher. It will probably take some explaining if my dad saw the word orgasm on the front of a product but luckily he doesn’t tend to go through my makeup bag too often! This is such an amazing blush that can be worn at any time of year. I love it.

There has definitely been one highlighter to rule them all so far this year and that is the Laura Mercier Matte Baked Powder in Highlight. This is not matte, so it’s a pretty ridiculous name but this is such a gorgeous highlight to wear during the day. I do have other highlighters that I love but I do keep coming back to this one, it’s just so beautiful and glowy.

I don’t think that I’ve used any other concealer as much as the Bare Minerals Bareskin Serum Concealer this year. This stuff is amazing! It is very creamy and gives full coverage without creasing. I wear this under the eyes or to hide blemishes and redness; it’s quite versatile. I am currently onto my fourth tube. It’s that good!

I am currently testing out a few different primers, but my favourite one continues to be the Bare Minerals Neutralising Primer. I don’t have the bottle here to photograph; it ran out last month. I’m waiting for some of the others to run out before I repurchase it. But if you have a lot of redness in your skin this primer hydrates the skin and reduces those red patches. It is awesome!

So those are my current 2016 face favourites. What are yours? I think I’ll do the Eyes one next.
