A few years ago I created the High End Makeup Starter Kit based on the items that I believed anyone would need if they were just starting out in makeup. Well, my makeup tastes have changed over the years and I wanted to create an update for that post as well as creating a one for people who may need a tighter budget for their makeup needs.
I will post the drugstore edition next week. But for now, here are the higher priced items that I believe are essential for a full-faced look. My only rule is that everything had to be still available and not limited edition special collections.
The one foundation that I have found everybody loves when i use it on them is the Nars Sheer Glow. This has buildable coverage and gives a beautiful subtle glow to the skin. It looks really natural and is really long-lasting on the skin. I haven’t ever had any trouble whilst using this foundation; it’s so beautiful.
I have two concealers; one for under my eyes and the other for blemishes. The under eye concealer I would pick is Bare Minerals Stroke of Light. It’s a lovely brightening product that doesn’t crease in fine lines. I would use the Urban Decay Naked Concealer on blemishes. It has a nice thick consistency that covers a great number of sins without looking cakey. These are both brilliant products.
For powder, I would have picked the Dior Forever and Ever Powder, but I no longer own it. Therefore, I picked my current favourite, bare Minerals Hydrating Mineral Veil. This does a brilliant job at setting foundations but also doesn’t dry your face out. It feels really light and looks invisible on my skin. It’s definitely worth checking out; although Bare Minerals do have other veils available if this one isn’t for you.
Without a doubt, the bronzer that I would pick is the Liz Earle Radiant Glow Bronzer. I’ve hit pan on mine. It works well as a subtle contour if you use the matte shade, but also has enough shimmer to be an all over face bronzer. It is buildable if you prefer more colour, but it looks so natural on the skin. I truly adore it.
The best high end blushers that I have come across are the Urban Decay Afterhour blushers. They have an amazing colour range, but if you want something that can be worn everyday and look really natural, I would choose the shades Video or Fetish. Both are matte and look so beautiful on the skin.
This was quite a tricky one to pick because so many companies do lovely highlighters. However, the best one for a natural look would be the Laura Mercier Face Illuminators. If used with a fan brush, this gives such a natural inner glow, although if you prefer a more high impact highlight that could blind angels, using this with a small highlighter brush also works. I just love the look of this so much!
For high end eyeshadows, I would pick any Urban Decay eyeshadow palette. You get such a great range of wearable eyeshadows and they blend beautifully. The formula is amazing, and you can always trust them to last all day.
The best higher end eyeliner that I have come across is the Lancome Grandiose Liquid Liner. This gives such a precise line and makes winged liner looks so easy to achieve.
A mascara that is a great all-rounger is the Lancome Grandiose Extra mascara. This lengthens, gives volume and doesn’t clump or feel sticky. It just makes my lashes look amazing.
The only high end brow pencil that I use to get natural looking brows is the Benefit Precisely Brows pencil. The pencil is so precise, so you can draw really fine hairs to give the impression of fuller looking brows.
There are so many amazing high end lipsticks, and this was such a hard job to narrow just one brand down. However I had to pick the Smashbox Be Legendary lipsticks. Smashbox just got something right with heir lipsticks. The shades are amazing and the formula is really long-lasting in both the cream and matte collections. They still remain one of my favourite lipstick brands.
So that is all of the products that I would recommend as a starter kit for anybody wanting a higher end makeup collection.
Have a nice day guys and I’ll see you tomorrow.
