The Drugstore Starter Kit

Last week I posted my picks for High End makeup, that I would recommend to someone just starting out with makeup. However, most people are on a tighter budget and need cheaper items for their first makeup bag. Therefore, I have created a drugstore version of last week’s list.

Foundation

A foundation that I would highly recommend is the No7 Lift and Luminate Foundation. This gives such a beautiful luminous coverage without looking caked on or greasy. It looks so flawless and natural on the skin. This is really long-lasting too. It’s just such a great all-rounder at a reasonable price.

Concealer

This will come as no surprise, but I would highly recommend the Superdrug BB Eye Cream as a concealer. This is fuller coverage and ideal for under the eyes. I have used this on blemishes once or twice and it does work really well for that too.

Powder

My favourite drugstore powders are definitely the Makeup Revolution Luxury Banana Powder or the Bourjois Rice Powder. Both do a brilliant job at matifying the skin without making the face look flat. And since I have dry skin, neither of these clings to dry patches. They are great products.

Bronzer

The best drugstore bronzers are the Models Own Sculpt and Glow collection. If you want something matte for contouring, you have quite a variety, and they also have ones with more shimmer. They blend out beautifully and look really natural on the skin.

Blush

I’m returning back to Models Own again and choosing the Rock n’ Rosy blushers. These look stunning and so natural on the skin. They are richly pigmented but blend out like a dream. The best shade is definitely Sienna if you want something with a tiny bit of colour.

Highlighter

A highliughter that I have really come around to loving is the Natural Collection Stick Highlighters. These blend out really well and can look very natural, or very intense depending on how much you blend them out.

Brows

The best brow pencil from the drugstore is the Maybelline Brow Satin. This does such an amazing job at filling in sparse brows whilst still looking natural. I have yet to find a cheaper product that gives such amazing results.

Eyeshadow

I don’t own a lot of drugstore eyeshadows. However, a palette collection that I really love would be the Rimmel Magnif’eye palettes. These are beautifully pigmented and blend out really well. They’re ideal for someone just starting out in makeup.

Eyeliner

A liquid liner that I have loved for many years is the L’Oreal Ultra Precision Liquid Liner. This gives such a fluid, fast drying line, and also really helps with drawing winged liner. I will always love this eyeliner; it’s gorgeous to work with!

Mascara

I didn’t pick a specific mascara for this but a brand. Maybelline by far make the best drugstore mascaras. There is something for everybody. I love the Spider Effect mascara, but there are so many amazing ones; there’s not one dud among the collection!

Lipstick

Once again, drugstore lipsticks were so tricky to narrow down. However I would recommend the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams, Models Own Lipstick or the Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids. All are beautiful formulas that do feel really comfortable to wear.

So that is my drugstore starter kit. What would you recommend as a drugstore starter kit? Please leave your suggestions below in the comments.

Thanks again for reading, and take care.

Awesome suggestions, some I hadn’t heard of (Might be a UK thing or I’m just blind, haha). I’ll have to check these out, especially the face powder. I also have very dry skin, so finding a powder that doesn’t showcase my face dandruff would be amazing. 😀
