Although I have been in relationships in the past, I’ve never actually been on a mini-break before. This is something new for me which I’m actually really excited for.
We are going to McDonald’s Crutherland Hotel near Glasgow. Yeah, I’m going there twice this month!
Before we go I wanted to share some things that I have learned about planning the first trip away together and hope they help anyone else in the future.
Is it too Soon?
I came up with the idea of going away after seeing Wowcher offers for Hotel deals. Although I was tempted to just book something there, I asked Mark if he fancied going away for a few days. Luckily he was excited, but I was terrified that he was going to say no. Although we have exchanged ‘I love you’s’ and feel confident around each other, we have only been dating for three months. Part of me wondered if it was too soon, and I did bring this up with him. Luckily he was excited which put any doubts out of my mind.
Ask other Couples for Advise
Some hotels are great for singletons or groups of friends. And there are others perfect for couples. Ask your loved up friends for recommendations on great hotels. They might just know of the perfect one. It was my parents who told me about this one, and after showing it to Mark, we picked there.
Don’t just book something’s without discussing it with your partner. They might have their own ideas, which may be better than yours. Mark originally wanted to stay away for 3 nights, but once we looked into prices 2 nights was more reasonable.
What is your Budget?
Unless money is no object, a budget is necessary. What could you realistically spend on a holiday and give yourself enough money to live for the rest of the month? We decided £150 each would be our maximum spend and we found a deal that was much less than that. Definitely share the price equally; this is one situation where the guy paying isn’t going to go down well!
Where do you want to go?
This all depends on what you want to do. Do you want a foreign beach holiday or just somewhere in the country? What activities do you want to do? Both me and Mark like walking and exploring new places so our list consisted of Cumbria, Yorkshire and Scotland. When we started looking at prices and different hotels online, Scotland came out on top. And since he hasn’t met my sister yet…. we decided on Glasgow.
Yes, you can get great deals online, but sometimes if you ring the hotel directly, they can give you even better deals. Online the offer came out way over budget. When we rang the hotel they were able to cut that price down quite considerably and gave us a few little extras. Haggling is possibly the wrong word, but it’s the only way that I can describe it.
Again this comes down to personal circumstances. Would you feel confident driving so far or would you prefer public transport. I used to drive down to London quite regularly so I am used to long car journeys. However luckily both of us drive, so if I do get a bit tired Mark can always take over for a bit. We’re also taking my car which should be fun!
Those are all of my tips for planning a trip away. If you can think of any other tips, please leave them in the comments sections.
Where did you go away for your first couple’s holiday?
Have a lovely day guys!
