How Old is my Makeup?

I have seen this video going around Youtube over the last few weeks. In the video beauty gurus have used the website Check Cosmetics to have a look at how old their makeup really is by typing the batch numbers into the website.

Companies make quite a few products and not all of them are going to sell within the months that they are first produced, so there will be a fair amount of back-log in factories. I do tend to agree that as long as something isn’t open it will still be okay, but it did shock me to find how old some of these products actually are.

I found six products that I wanted to share with you. Some of these are recent purchases too.

Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick in Skinny Dip

I bought this in Boots a few months ago even though Benefit haven’t sold this line for about six years. The formula was changed to the cream packaged ones, and now it’s changed again. I had the feeling that these would have been found in the factory and just sent out to get rid of them. I was expecting a date from atleast 2012/13 however this was made in 2017. Really? Are they bringing this line back? I just find it weird that this was made recently when Benefit’s lipsticks are so different these days.

MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Warm Rose

I did buy this in a Beauty Outlet in York at Christmas last year. You do expect products in these types of stores to be old, but I tend to not mind. As long as the product in good and doesn’t look icky, I’ll buy it. This was manufactured in 2015. That’s almost 3-years ago. The product is still fine and I will still use it, but three years is a long time to sit in a factory!

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Keep in mind that mascara’s shelf life is 6 months. I purchased this in January this year (so yeah, longer than 6 months, but it doesn’t smell yet or damage my eyes). This was made in a factory back in 2015. I don’t know whether to be grossed out by that or not. I hope that they’re still not making them if there are so many from nearly 3-years ago left untouched in a factory warehouse.

NARS Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita

I love this lip pencil. It’s such a beautiful, flattering colour. I got this for Christmas two years ago off my Mam, and I love it. This was made in 2015, which is great, as that was the year it was bought. Well done NARS.

Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Love Hangover

You guys know how much that I love this product. The colour is beautiful and blends perfect onto the cheeks. It’s a firm favourite in my collection. I bought this in 2015. And this terrified me…. this was made in 2011. This blush is coming up to seven years old!!! What the fuck?? I will be getting rid of this and buying another one when I get paid.

Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Medium Beige

I remember being told by a Bare Minerals rep that even though they have the guidance expiry sticker on their products, their products don’t expire since all the ingredients are natural. I don’t know if that’s true, but none of my Bare Minerals products (apart from a mascara) have gone off. I bought this foundation quite recently; at least three months ago and it was made back in 2015. This is a really popular product, so I was more surprised that they had surplus stock from so long ago, more than the fact that I have a three year old blush in my collection.

So those are some ages of products in my collection. I found it quite interesting, and it opened my eyes at how massive the beauty industry actually is. I would recommend doing this if you are curious. Some products may surprise you.

Have a lovely day guys.
