Valentines Day Makeup Tutorial: Smoky but Natural

Hi everyone. How are you all today?

It’s February at last, and with that comes Valentines Day. I’ve never celebrated Valentines Day properly but I still have enjoyed doing these romantic makeup looks every year. Well, this year I can actually celebrate it with Mark, and I’m looking forward to it.

My first Valentines inspired makeup look is a soft smoky natural eyeshadow look. I wanted to use the Jaclyn Hill Palette for this, and I loved the look that I came up with.

Face

For the base I used my Kat Von D Lock It Hydrating Primer to act as a hydrating base for the Maybelline Superstay Foundation, which can look a bit dry without a hydrating primer on me. I blended the foundation out with a beauty sponge, and added the Maybelline Erase Eye concealer under my eyes. To set everything, I buffed a light layer of the Maybelline Master Fix Powder under my eyes and around my cheeks and chin.

To bronze up my face I used my ever faithful Bare Minerals Invisible Bronzer, buffing this out on my cheeks and forehead. For blush I used a very light layer of Urban Decay’s Afterhour Blush in Bang. This is really pigmented so go easy on the colour. The first time that I used this blush, I looked like a clown!

To finish off the face, I used the Maybelline Molten Gold Highlighter. This is really natural but does add a subtle glow, which was perfect for this look.

Eyes

I filled in my eyebrows using the Benefit Precisely Brows pencil, and set them with the Eyelure Fleur de Force Eyebrow Gel. I have been loving this combo lately; it just gives a lovely natural look to the brows whilst filling any sparse areas.

As for eyeshadow, I used the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette for the entire look. To set the eye, I took the shade Enlight, taking this all the way up to the brow bone. Yes, this is a highlight shade but it’s so subtle, I have enjoyed using it to set my eyelids.

In the crease I slowly built up my transition with the shades Silk Cream, Pukey, Buns and Chips. I took Chips onto the outer eye area, and down along my lower lash line. I kept every part as soft as possible, so that there was not one harsh line on my eyes. To add some sparkle to the upper lid, I packed the shade SBN all the way along until I reached the warm matte shade. Along the lower lash line, I buffed a light layer of Queen on top of Chips.

For liner, I smoked out a touch of the shade Abyss along my upper and lower lash line. I have actually preferred this to tight lining lately. It looks just as good without making my eyes water.

To finish off the eyes I took the Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara, and added a few coats to my lashes. This gives really natural yet full looking lashes. I really like the look (and it doesn’t make my eyes water).

Lips

To finish off this look I added a coat of the urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Ravenswood to my lips. This is such a pretty, warm neutral lipstick. that I tend to reach for on a daily basis lately. I love how this wears.

So that is my first Valentines day makeup tutorial. I will post another one in a few days. The next one will be a Sultry, and quite a heavy makeup look, but I’m sure you’ll love it.

Have a lovely day guys, and take care!
