Brights vs Neutrals Makeup Tutorial

Hi everyone, how are you all doing today?

Sometimes I really struggle to decide what makeup look to go for and I end up just slapping random things on my face. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. Today I mixed a few bright shades with neutrals to get a slightly toned down makeup look. It does look quite simple, but it took a lot to get it there.

Face

For primer I used the ELF Cosmetics Toning Primer, which I’m not too keen on this time round. It seems to clump up on my face a little. Today was one of the few days this didn’t happen, thank goodness! I blend it into my skin with my fingers. Over this I used the Max Factor Healthy Skin Harmony Foundation, buffing this in with a brush. Under my eyes I used the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer, which is one of my favourites. I blend this out with a beauty sponge.

To set everything in place I used the Wunder-2 Perfect Selfie Powder. Can I just say, this is a good powder however I hit pan after three weeks. If I pay £20 for a product I want it to last longer than three weeks!

To contour, I used the ELF Cosmetics Blush and Bronzer Duo in St Lucia. This bronzer suits my skin tone slightly better than the Fiji one. I took the blush from the compact and added this to the apples of my cheeks. As for highlighter I used the Blue Loose Highlighter from the MUA Prism collection. Oh my God this highlight looks amazing! I wish I knew how to get highlighters to show up better on camera.

Eyes

To fill in my brows I used the Lancome Sourcil Styler, brushing this back and forth through my hairs to get quite a full brow look. I saw Essie Button do this with her brows and it’s quite a nice effect.

On the eyes, I took the Vanilla shade from the Smashbox Masterclass palette and blended this all through my eyelid space. In the crease I buffed the shade Nude out. On the lid, I then took the shade So Spicy and packed this quite lightly onto my lid up to the crease, blending out the edges.

Under my eyes I took the shade Tail Feather, and buffed this out along my lash line. This looked quite harsh so I added a touch of Vanilla and Hazelnut and buffed this into the teal shade.

To finish off the eyes I added a few coats of the Benefit They’re Real mascara. This isn’t my favourite mascara, but it needed using up.

Lips

To finish off the look, I added a coat of the Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Fireball Matte. This is such a gorgeous matte lipstick; the formula is comfortable and so pigmented. This took one swipe to get this amount of colour payoff. I love it!

And that is my finished look. I really liked how it turned out. How do you mix neutrals and brights together?

Have a lovely day, and I hope the weather is better where you guys are. It is currently raining up here.
