On my favourite palettes of the year list I mentioned that I would be doing a full makeup favourites list. That never happened in January.
However, late is better than never. So here… in March… I bring you products that I truly loved from 2017. I have included everything from makeup to skincare… a a few house things too.
PS. I’m not including long-term favourites here. These are simply products that I discovered in the past year.
Bare Minerals Bare Pro Liquid
I realised how much I loved this foundation when it ran out the other day. Every other heavy duty foundation looked quite cakey on my skin and just didn’t sit right. This always looked natural and I could trust it to last through the most strenuous shifts at work. It is gorgeous! As soon as payday hit I headed straight to Debenhams and bought a new one. I can’t be without it!
Avon Silken Pressed Powder
I never really mentioned this one last year, but I used it a lot after receiving it in an Avon mystery bag. Avon sells these in the sale catalogue. This is a tinted powder, but it applies so light to the skin and really sets makeup into place. You can’t really see it on the skin. It’s absolutely stunning. I hit pan on mine quite recently so I may need to find something to replace it soon.
Marc Jacobs Decadence Perfume
I have the newer version that’s slightly lighter. This has such a gorgeous musky, yet sweet scent. It’s quite unusual but I love it. I’ve been wearing this on a day to day basis throughout the last year, and this one. It’s just a lovely subtle scent.
Medusa Loose Mineral Blush
I need to buy more of these! These are so pigmented without being unworkable. The shade that I own, Sex on the Peach is that beautiful rosy peach shade that flatters quite a few different skin tones. I find that this formula blends out so beautifully and lasts all day. If you are after a cheap dupe of the Bare Minerals original blushers, these are excellent.
Chanel Lipstick: Adrienne
I never really thought that I suited beige lipstick. It always reminded me of the Chavvy girls at school in the 90s. However, Adrienne is a lovely pinky beige that actually flatters my skin tone. It goes really well with brighter eyeshadow looks, and the formula is so creamy that it keeps your lips well hydrated. I love this shade so much!
Home Inspiration Sweet & Salty Caramel Candle
I still have two of these in the house; one in my makeup room, the other in the corridoor. I love this scent so much. Mark isn’t keen; hence why it isn’t in the bedroom; but I love it. It’s such a delicious scent. I could eat the candle. I’ll have to get something more Spring scented soon though, because this is too much of a Winter scent to burn all year round.
Lancome Sourcil Styler
This is by far my favourite brow product. I love the brush on this. It just creates the best, fluffy looking, natural eyebrows. I’m not the biggest fan of that precise, faded out brow look that so many people love. And it looks amazing on them, but I know that it wouldn’t really suit me. I prefer a more natural look for my brows, and this is the perfect product for me. When this runs out though, I will need a lighter shade.
Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick
Out of all the liquid lipsticks that I tried last year, these were some of my favourites. The shade range is beautiful and they apply beautifully with just one swipe. They are quite a thin formula so they aren’t the most drying, cat’s butt looking formula. They look beautiful. I love the shade Big Spender as a dark, everyday nude. They are all just so gorgeous.
Laura Ashley Picture Frame Clock
I bought this before I met Mark, but I love the photo and flower that are in the picture side now. This was the first rose that Mark ever bought for me on our second date where he took me on a picnic. It was a lovely date and I wanted to keep the flower somehow, so I pressed it for a month then placed it in the frame with some photos of us. In May, we’ll have been official for a whole year, and I like looking at this Clock to remember how easy it has been even since day one.
L’Ocean Ultra Concentrated Caviar Eye Serum
I really struggled with my under-eye area last year. I developed some sort of dry flakiness around my right eye that wouldn’t go away. I soon discovered that I was actually having a reaction to that Superdrug BB Eye Concealer Cream so I had to cut one of my favourite items out of my routine. I received this bottle in the Little Known Beauty Subscription, and it is amazing. It really reduces the look of fine lines and makeup sits on top of this really well. With it being a serum, it isn’t a thick consistency, which I feel works for my skin a lot better than average eye creams. I will be buying this again once this runs out.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
I was thrilled the day that Debenhams introduced Kat Von D to it’s stores. I soon fell in love with her eyeshadows and liquid lipsticks. The lipsticks are beautiful; there is such a wide variety of colours and they all apply beautifully. I can trust these to be non-transferable and they last all day. Mark loves the bright red shade, so I do reach for this one quite a lot on date nights.
Lancome Tresor La Nuit Perfume
I love this scent so much! This was my night out perfume for the later part of the year. Mark bought me this for my birthday and it smells amazing. It’s a deep, fruity scent that is actually quite a sexy scent. I absolutely love it.
Smashbox Contour Sticks
I’ve started using these underneath my bronzer to try and make my cheek bones stand out a little bit more. These blend out wonderfully and work so well at contouring your face. The shades are perfect for light to medium skin tones. I’m sure Smashbox do have a deeper skin toned kit, but the shades I have are perfect for my skin tone.
Dose of Colours Eyedeal Duo: Envy
I never thought that I would suit black eyeshadow, but I wore this quite a lot last year. You et a cream shadow base and a glitter. The glitter is stunning and doesn’t flake away through the day. For a really smoky, glittery look, these are perfect. I do want to try other shades in the collection, but I only have the black for now, which I love.
Lancome Mr Big Mascara
Out of the numerous mascaras that I tried last year, this was my favourite. This does not smudge, flake or give me watery eyes. This was the perfect false lash effect mascara that actually added volume to your lashes. I loved it. It was by far my favourite mascara launch from the year.
What were your standout products from last year?
Have a lovely day guys, and take care.
